Usability Competency

One of the main functions of the Volkswagen Electronics Research Laboratory is creating products that meet the needs of the North American market. This is not only due to our particular location in California, at the heart of the Silicon Valley, but also because we have an established usability competency at the ERL.

The purpose of the Usability competency at the ERL is to take electronic innovations and make them as easy to use for the customer as possible—with the unique point of view of making them easy to use while in the car or driving.

Our Usability work includes researching market trends in the automobile and other related industries, such as consumer electronics, to gain insight into customer needs and translate these findings into new product ideas. We regularly bring users to our lab and hold customer clinics to test out our new products and gain customer feedback. This feedback is an integral part of our product development as we consider user feedback to be one of our most valuable and useful sources of information in developing our products. We incorporate this feedback into our product development, then do further testing and evaluation. We iterate through this process until we have a product we are proud to release to our customers.
